Hello Jan. It's a galvanized pan that keeps the coals contained and close to the Dutch Oven. You can find them at feed stores or The Home Depot with the metal garbage cans or feed containers. It's a nice way to keep everything (your tongs, lid lifter and the oven) all contained.
